Primary Schools’ Rugby Tourney To Be Held At Whakatane

Gaining a well merited victory the Bay of Plenty Primary Schools’ Representative Rugby team commenced the annual games with Thames Valley in a way that' augurs well for the team, the president, Mr E. F. J. Naumann, stated in his report to the annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Primary Schools’ Rugby Union at Whakatane. This ■ year the return match is to be played at Thames Valley. Last year all the Sub-Unions in the Bay of Plenty had given assistance which enabled the primary school representative teams to travel to Opotiki for the annual tournament. Without that support many of the teams would have been unable to travel, Mr Naumann added. The tournament had been won by Rotorua with Opotiki runnersup.

For the first time the tournament this year for the Tai Mitchell Shield and the Boynton Shield is to be played at Whakatane. “The people of Whakatane,” Mr Naumann said, “will be called upon to billet visiting teams.” He was confident that the Rugby Union and the people would co-operate to the utmost in making the first tournament a success.
