MASONIC BALL AT TANEATUA WAS BIG SOCIAL EVENT

The Masonic Ball held at Taneatua each year in pre-war days was generally acknowledged to be the social event of the season in that district. Revived again this year the Masonic Ball held in the Taneatua hall last week if anything exceeded those past balls in brilliance.

The hall has never looked lovelier. Great branches of greenery interspersed with multi-coloured lights adorned the walls and a string of lights and balloons was stretched across the stage. Streamers were suspended from the ceiling to each corner with large clusters of balloons also suspended from the ceiling giving a lightness to the effect. These were later released to float down over the dancers.

Freddie Burt’s orchestra, augmented for the occasion, provided music for the dancing. The supper tables were a positive delight. There were large plates of pork and poultry, trifles and salads sandwiches and savouries, also sweets, nuts and fruit, in fact just everything, and it was served continuously. The Grand March provided a lovely spectacle with the colourful gowns of the women. set off to advantage by the dark evening dress of the men.
