Wedding
SCHNELLER—MARTIN A pretty wedding was solemnised in the Edgecumbe Presbyterian Church recently when Iris Daphne, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs S. G. Martin, Thornton, was married to Philip Christian, eldest son of Mr and Mrs C. Schneller, Thornton. The officiating minister was Rev. J. H. Starnes, and the wedding music was played by Miss Starnes. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, made a charming picture in a graceful gown of heavy cream embossed georgette, cut on fitting lines to the waist. The front of the dress was rucked to form a V neckline. The very full skirt terminated in a long oval train and a row of small buttons trimmed the back of the gown. Long full sleeves were gathered to a band at the wrist. The beautifully tulle embroidered veil was held to the head with a halo of orange blossom and formed a second train while she carried a lovely bouquet of white chrysanthemums, roses and maiden hair fern.
The maid of honour, Mrs J. Sykes, /Taneatua (cousin of the bride) and the bridesmaid, Miss June Walker, Thornton, wore frocks of pale lemon and blue lace over matching taffetas. Their very full skirts were gracefully trimmed witha peplum around the waistline and a row of small buttons trimmed the back of the gowns. Shoulder length veils of mauve and lemon with matching flower were worn on their heads and they carried bouquets of mauve and lemon chrysanthemums, roses and maiden hair fern.
The bridegroom was attended by his two brothers, Mr Roy Schneller, best man and Mr John Schneller, groomsman.
After the ceremony a reception was held in the Thornton Hall, Mrs Martin receiving the guests in a smart suit of blue wool georgette with black accessories and a shoulder spray in autumn tones. The bridegroom’s mother, Mrs Schneller, wore a smart frock of blue with gold dress-studs down the neckline, black accessories and an autumn tone shoulder spray also. For travelling the bride chose a suit of royal blue wool georgette with black accesories and a shoulder spray' of pink spiral lilies, small rose buds and maiden hair fern. Mr and Mrs Schneller will make their home in Thornton.
Amongst those present were: Mr and Mrs T. Reader, Tauranga, Mrs Stoffel, Eltham, Mr T. Schneller, Misses Marie and Valerie Schneller, New Plymouth, Mr Doug. Ogle, Eltbam, Mr and Mrs S. Ford, Rawhitiroa, Mrs A. Baikie, Misses Grace and Helen Baikie, Eltham, Mr and Mrs Simons and Miss Mavis Simons, Waihi. MEXTED—WOOLFIELD The Waimana Church was the scene of a very pretty wedding recently, when Helen Ahora, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs E. P. Woolfield, Waimana, was married to Richard Thomas, son of Mr T. Mexted, Thornton, and the late Mrs Mexted.
The Rev. J. C. J. Wilson, Vicar of Whakatane, officiated. The church had been nicely decorated with white flowers, and the bridal couple stood beneath a lovely floral bell made by Mrs N. Clark, of Opotiki. Wedding music was played by Mr A. Bell. The bride entered the church with her father, wearing a charming bridal gown of off white satin, cut on slimming lines. The bodice was nicely gathered in the front, and full Bishop sleeves and selfcovered buttons were used to finish the back of the bodice. The full skirt fell into a long train, and the embroidered tulle veil formed a 'second train which was held in place with a coronet of orange blossoms. She carried a lovely bouquet of cream roses and maiden hair fern. 1 The three bridesmaids were Miss Shirley Rose, Putaruru, Miss Betty Mexted, Thornton, and Miss Ann Cranswick, Nukuhou North, all frocked alike in Ice Blue Moire Taffeta made with fichu necklines and bustle, backs. Dainty sprays of red and autumn shaded flowers were worn in the hair and they carried small posies of red zinnias, bouvarias and maiden hair fern.
The bridegroom was attended by Mr B. Mexted as best man and Mr D. Woolfield, groomsman. '.The Waimana Hall had been beautifully decorated for the reception, where about 250 guests were received by Mr and Mrs Woolfield, who were assisted by Mr Mexted and his daughter. Mrs Woolfield chose a smart black frock and accessories and fur coat, and wore a dainty spray of autumn shaded flowers. The three-tiered wedding cake held pride of place .on the bridal table. Mr W. A.daison acted as toastmaster, and Mr M. King proposed the toast to the bridal couple. The
best man read numerous telegrams conveying best wishes. Vocal items were sung by Mr B. Holmes and Mrs L. Sinclair of Opotiki.
Mr and Mrs Mexted left later by car for a holiday touring the North and South Islands, Mrs Mexted travelling in a smart tan- tweed suit and coat with tan accessories.
