300 Africans In Attack On Bus

Three hundred Africans stoned and set fire to an Indian bus at Umgeni, Durban, after an accident in Which an African woman was killed outside a native compound.

The woman fell under a wheel of the bus just as it moved off and the driver, pulled up immediately. . A riot squad soon arrived and restored order, putting out the fire.

Another Indian bus was stoned shortly afterwards at Umgeni level crossing. Some natives were arrested. Three Indians were taken to hospital. The incidents occurred two days after an inquiry opened at Durban into race riots involving Indians and Africans at Durban and Pietermaritburg in which 179 people were killed.
