Telegraph Wires Brought Down By Large Landslide

Telephonic communication was interrupted only for a Very short time by a large landslide which slipped onto a side road from the Ohiwa Bluff about 10 miles from 'Opotiki on the Whakatane side late Sunday night. The road was covered for a distance of about 150 yards and the slip spread over about five acres of beach.

Three telegraph poles and about 'i 10 chains of wire were dragged down but linesmen operating from Opotiki found the slide and remedied communications within a few hours. A bulldozer, which had been used to widen the road, was buried under the spoil.
