Busy Year For The Whakatane Branch Of The Red Cross
A women’s magazine is purchased by the Branch every month and is sent to the local hospital for the benefit of the women patients, the president, Mrs B. S. Barry, stated in her report presented to the, annual meeting of the Whakatane Branch of the Red Cross. During the year two parcels, donated by women members of the Whakatane Golf Club were despatched to England, one to Eexter and one to Hull. Also, ten cases of clothing were packed and forwarded to England. The room in the Red Cross building, formerly occupied by the Registered Nurses’ Association has been let to the Lyceum Club with the use of the large rooin on special occasions.
The proceeds from the street stalls held last year amounted to £B6.
In closing her report Mrs Barry said the, following grants had been made: Food for Britain £SO, Disaster Relief Fund £5, Middle East Relief Fund £lO. Officers elected:—
President; Mrs B. S. Barry; vicepresidents, Mesdames W. Sullivan and T. James; executive committee, Mesdames S. S. Shapley, C. H. Comiskey, Hopgood, C. Armstrong and O. Hamill; secretary, Mrs L. Lovelock; treasurer, Mr J. Duthie; auditor, Mr R .Mollgaard; delegates to Centre meeting, Mesdames Barry and Lovelock; convener for sewing, Mrs O. Hamill.
