Kowhai W.I. Has It’s First Birthday
The first birthday of the Kowhai Women’s Institute was recently celebrated by members and visitors from various Institutes at the Whakatane Methodist Hall, which was artistically decorated with autumn flowers in shades of gold. Following the usual monthly meeting and welcome to new members and visitors, by the president, Mrs Cooper, a musical competition was played being won by Mrs Thomasen, Ohope. The winner of the Lucky Handshake competition was Mrs Stenhouse, Whakatane. A word making competition was won by Mrs H. Armstrong, Ohope. The birthday cake, attractively iced with the Kowhai Emblem in green and gold colourings, was cut by the retiring president, Mrs Patterson.
The trading stall was well patronised. Hostesses for the evening were the committee members. Because the Methodist Hall is not being available, next month’s meeting will be held at the Parish Hall.
