BAY OF PLENTY STATION IYZ IS TO OPEN TONIGHT

At eight o’clock tonight the new Bay of Plenty Broadcasting Station IYZ Rotorua, will be officially opened by the Hon. F. Jones, Minister in Charge of Broadcasting. Included in the opening will be the Members cf Parliament for the districts covered by IYZ and also the Mayors of Rotorua and Tauranga. These speakers are to be introduced by the Director of Broadcasting, Mr William Yates.

Following the opening a musical programme by Rotorua artists is to be presented and at 10 o’clock a 8.8. C. programme, “A Variety Bandbox.” The station closes down at 10.30.

Studios At Whakatane The ■ culmination of several months of intensive planning and construction, the new station has been finally completed, with the transmitter at Paengaroa and the studios at Rotorua. It is intended to build further studios at Tauranga and there is a possibility that studios may be placed at Whakatane. IYZ is intended to cover the Bay of Plenty and will have actual broadcasts of sports meetings and other local events of general interest to listeners. Its programmes are designed for Bay of Plenty listeners and it will present a varied session from 7 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. every day of the week. Although the official opening is tonight the station has already been on the *air testing, and reports so far received indicate it is giving excellent reception, not only to the Bay but also to other parts of the country.
