Playing surprisingly good football for so early in the season Taneatua senior and junior teams defeated teams from the City Club, Opotiki, in friendly inter-club games at Opotiki recently. In either grade Taneatua had a bit too much for City and just managed to get their wins, the seniors being successful 6—o and the juniors B—6. Taneatua teams will play Edgecumbe at Taneatua on Saturday. Taneatua teams: —
Seniors: Welch, Sisam, L. MeCready, McGougan, Hurran (captain), R. Hohua, S. Hawthorne, Show, Foreman, Anderson, Hunt, Bownes, 8011, Tort, Semmens. Try by Hohua and penalty goal by McGougan.
Juniors: Nebourne, Merito, Atkinson, Stewart (captain), A. Burns, Price, Cholners, Brown, Sowell, H. Merito, Jones, Eggleton, Bennett, Hawthorne, Tumoana. Tries by Burns and Hawthorne and conversion by Merito. SOLE SENIOR SELECTOR Mr F. Harawira, Paroa, was elected sole senior selector for the Whakatane Rugby Sub-Union for the coming season at a meeting of the union executive in Whakatane on Wednesday night. A sole junior selector, Mr C. Wells, Paroa, was also elected.
As there is only one team in the third grade competition it was decided to leave the election of a selector until the need arose.
