RANGITAIKI WINS BAY OF PLENTY SHIELD
The Rangitaiki Defence Rifle
Club won the Bay of Plenty Shield for the best aggregate shooting over the distance of 500 yards and 600 yards respectively, by a team of ten riflemen, on the Papamoa range on Saturday. Tauranga, who were the runners-up and only four points behind the winners, were successful in the event for the Opotiki Star, awarded for the best aggregate gained by a team of four marksmen.
The Rangitaiki members had only been able to have one practice shoot prior to Saturday’s competition, as their range is under repair. The standard of shooting by the Rangitaiki and Tauranga men, despite the prevalence of a strong south-west wind and intermittent rain squalls, was of high order. There were some very fine . individual efforts. A. Moore (a lad of 16years) (Rangitaiki) and and Warren (Tauranga) securing the possible on the>soo yards range, and A. Penney (Rangitaiki) a 49 on the 600 yards range. The Waihi, Rotorua, and Te Puke clubs were also represented, and were placed in that order.
