New U.N. Building By Next Year
The United Nations has awarded to a New York firm the contract for the construction of the 39-storey Secretariat building—the first of three main units to be built on the six-block permanent UN site in Midtown Manhattan, New York. The contract is the largest financial obligation that the United Nations has undertaken since the world organisation was founded more than thrqe years ago. The rectangular shaped structure will be located at the southern end of the 17-acre site, and will be ready for occupancy by November, 1950.
