WHAKATANE TO DEFEND THE KINGS CUP Competed for regularly since 1917 between rowing clubs in the Bay of Plenty, the Kings Picture Cup will again be raced for between Whakatane and the Tauranga Club on the Whakatane river tomorrow afternoon. Whakatane will defend the cup, which they won from Tauranga two seasons ago.

The cup was presented by the Kings Picture Company during the first World War for competition between the Bay of Plenty rowing clubs, there were four then, Whakatane, Tauranga, Rotorua and Opotiki. However, since then Opotiki and Rotorua have gone out of existence.

The cup is a handsome trophy and has been the cause of some very stirring races although Opotiki and Whakatane have had a greater share of it than any of the other clubs.

The Whakatane crew to . defend the cup has been selected and has been in hard training for some time. The crew is:—

G. Moore (stroke), S. Shapley (3), P. Armstrong (2), G. Dines (bow), R. Reed (cox).
