PONY CLUB FORMED BY ENTHUSIASTS AT WHAKATANE
The response to endeavours to form a pony club at Whakatane was encouragingly shown when about 40 people met in the cricket pavilion at the Whakatane showgrounds on Thursday night. Mr G. Fogarty took .the chair and briefly outlined the aims and constitution of a club, which will be affiliated with all similar clubs in New Zealand and England. It was decided to form a club. A number of branches have already been formed, White Pine heading the list with a membership of 28. Following some discussion it was decided to hold the first rally of the club next Sunday to White Pine Bush. An open invitation to riders and others who may be interested is extended. Those who are going are asked to meet at Boundary Road corner, near the Whakatane bridge, and to bring their own lunch. The club will be divided into three groups. Juniors 17 years and under, associates 17-21 years and seniors over 21 years. Seniors are required as they are needed to give instruction and control affairs of the club. Officers elected: — President, Mr N. Reid (subject to confirmation);' senior instructors, Messrs G. Yeoman and L. Davis; secretary, Mrs R. M. Cobbe; assistant secretary, D. James. " Delegates have been appointed in several areas and a main committee formed at Whakatane. Whakatane, Mesdames Dodds, Chamberlain, Messrs B. J. Brosnahan, R. Bartlett, A. E. Palairet, K. Sisam, C. Zinsli; Taneatua, Mrs Yeoman, Mr G. Hill; Thornton, Mr Henry; White Pine, Miss Morse, L. Davis. Te Teko and Edgecumbe delegates have yet to be confirmed.
