Waimana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute’s Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou W.I. was well-at-tended, Mrs Looney presiding. Delegates appointed to attend the annual Council meeting next month in Opotiki are Mrs R. Looney and Mrs Wylde. Eight new members were welcomed, a record for one month; they were Mrs A. Poole, Mrs Atkinson, Mrs Hodgson, Mrs Dick Wardlaw, Miss Elsie Robinson, Miss N. Potter and Mrs Englebretson.

Stewards who assisted at the,recent W.I. flower show gave useful hints, from the judges, which will be a great help to future shows. Mrs Wylde read letters from the link in England, the Kelsby W.I. thanking members for the food parcels received, which are a great help and greatly appreciated. Mrs Hewitt gave the annual report of the gardening circle, and the points winners were:— i Best flower: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs M. King 2, Mrs Whiteman 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Whiteman 2,*M.rS'M. King 3. , . Decorative: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs Whiteman 2, Mrs Mitchell 3. Election ■* of officers: President, Mrs : Hewitt; vice-presidents, Mrs Looney and Mrs Stevenson; hon. secretary, Mrs Wylde; Press correspondent, Mrs M. King; committee, Mrs Looney, Mrs Potter, Mrs .King, Mrs Stevenson, Mrs Stansbury, Mrs Woolfield, Mrs, L. McDonald, Mrs Wylde, Mrs Bettleheim, Miss A. White.

During the afternoon Mrs Hewitt, on behalf of members, presented Mrs-Looney (retiring president) with a gift as a token of appreciation of all she had' done to help the Institute in,the past. Mrs Hewitt also asked Mrs White Snr. to accept a gift for Mrs R. White (retiring secretary) in appreciation of the past year’s work as secretary. Mrs Looney suitably replied. Points prizes won during the year were:—

Best single flower: Mrs Hewitt, I Mrs H. Bell and Mrs F. Bell. I Best multiple flower: Mrs H. Bell, Mrs L. McDonald, Miss J. Steevens. Miss vegetable: Mrs Hewitt, Mrs F. Bell, Mrs M. King. / General competitions: Mrs Hewitt, 1, Mrs F. Bell 2, Mrs Whiteman, Mrs ’Stevenson and Mrs I. Savage equal, 3. . The day’s competition winners were:— Best single flower: Mrs Stevenson 1, Mrs M. King 2, Mrs L. McDonald 3. Best multiple flower: Mrs M. King 1, Mrs L. McDonald 2, Mrs F. Bell 3 - Tomatoes: Mrs M. King 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs F. Bell 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs F. Bell 2, Mrs M. King 3. Darned fine sock: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs F. Bell 2. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mrs Looney thanked all members,

committee and secretary for their great co-operation during the past veer and wished the incoming committee every success. She also thanked Mrs Poole and Mrs Atkinson for acting as judges for the day, and also thanked the tellers, Mrs Hodgson and Miss M. Boynton.
