Temporary Petrol Shortage Felt At Whakatane
Because of the scarcity of containers at the depots at Auckland very little petrol has been shipped to Whakatane during the last fortnight with the result that a temporary shortage has been created at Whakatane. However, the position is expected to be improved by the end of this week, as a very large shipment is expected by the Clansman tomorrow.,'
The shortage began to be felt about 12 days ago. Two ships that were supposed to bring petrol did not do so as there were no containers at Auckland to bring it. Depots in the town cut supplies down to a minimum.
One supplier got around the problem of bringing petrol from Auckland by, truck. But to do this empty drums had to be sent. The oil companies would not supply drums.
