Barton's Follies Draw Good Crowds On Both Nights
Monday night and last night appreciative audiences packed k the Grand Theatre, Whakatane, for Barton’s Follies, that bright, breezy show with the typically Aussie tang. Both nights there was a happy thread of humour running through the whole programme and, though some of the gags were a bit worn the crowd responded well to the merry fooling of Willie Berrigan, Hal Lennon, Val Jellay and Jerry Keogh—to mention just the leaders of the laughs. In a class on his own is Jandy, the Continental musical clown. His merry, melodious antics combined fine artistry with irresistible comedy, and the crowd roared its appreciation until time forced a firmrefusal to their demands for more. Pick of the acts apart from his were the three Kelroys in their daring acrobatic feats, and Clarissa’s almost unbelievable contortions.
Some pf the sets and costumings were really attractive, and the ballet a hard-working team.
