Whakatane Does Well At Mercer Although not gaining any first class successes the Whakatane Rowing Club competed creditably under trying conditions at the Auckland Provincial Rowing Championships held at Mercer , on Saturday. With 3 °o yards to go the leading i boat had a long lead but Whakatane skiff began to . leap ahead and at every stroke the distance was shortened. It apeared that Whakatane could not lose. t > ft was at this stage that they were accidentally fouled by Hamilton, ' who were coming across to better water, about three-quarters of a length behind. Whakatane smashed an oar and they were out of the race. Whakatane results:— Juniors: Whakatane (G; Moore, E. Hunt, L. Stewart,* G. Dines, tL Reid) 4, eight starters: Youths: WhaXJ 1 !- Armstrong, S. Shapley, r M. Whittaker, W. Sandham, Rr Reid) 5, nine starters. Open maiden- foursr Whakatane (P. Armstrong, S. ShapWhitaker, W. Sandham; R. Reid) 5, 13 starters. Light maiden fours: Whakatane (P.
