New Club To Hold Meeting Soon
Horse Racing
Formed some months ago, the Whakatane Racing Club hopes to run its first meeting in April this year. April 23 has been fixed as the date, and the course is to be on the Te Teko domain. A permit has been received to conduct races, and the proposed nontotalisator meeting in April is to be the preliminary to application for permission to run a totalisator meeting. During the war years good picnic meetings were held at Te Teko, and there is every reason to hope that the course will prove to be a good one and that the proposed meeting will be a success in every way. Several reputable trainers have already made inquiries with a view to establishing training quarters here,, a circumstance that augurs well for the success of the new club.
UNITED CRICKETERS The Whakatane United Club will play Te Puke at Te Puke on Saturday. Following is the team: Rigden, Ruff, Brassey, Le Pine, Chamberlain, Crawford, McKenzie, Wyatt, Palmer, Comiskey, Howard. Cars will leave Mr Rigden’s residence at 8 a.m.
