Interpreter’s Protest
“You probably know more about this speech than I do Sir Peter,” the interpreter protested, during one of the speeches of welcome in Maori, to Sir Peter Buck at Ruatoki on Friday. The interpreter was finding some difficulty in translating some of the Maori phrases into English when he made this remark. There was a laugh from those present and with a smile, Sir Peter waved the interpreter to continue.
