Edgecumbe Women’s Institute
The monthly meeting of the Edge- ! cumbe Women’s Institute was well - attended, Mrs R. Ferguson presid- ' ing. A good deal of business was < dealt with, members showing a live : interest. Mrs Andrew McLean was congratulated on her successful literary entry in a recent Home and Country competition in which she gained first place. Four new members were welcomed, Mesdames S. H. Watkin, G. Irving, E. Hunter and Miss N. McGuiness. Birthday sprays were presented to Mesdames J. Nowland, J. Wallery, C. H. Ferguson, K. Magee, E. J. Thomson, L. Sim and Miss S. Jamieson. • Mrs D. Spence delighted all with her vocal solo. The bring and buy stall did a very brisk trade in the capable hands of Mesdames Sims, Hepburn, Ewen, Barnes and Tunnicliffe. A delicious afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Dally, Simpson,' Nowland. Yardley and Barnes. Competition results: — Best flower: Mrs Teesdale 1, Mrs Sim 2, Mesdames Marx, Woollet and Black, equal, 3. , Vase of flowers for effect: Mrs , Black 1, Mrs Martin 2, Mrs K. Magee 3. Vegetables: Mrs Sim 1, Mrs Black 2, Mrs Magee 3. Hand-made handkerchief: Mrs Teesdale 1, Mrs Martin 2.
