Fine Gesture

A fine gesture was made to Inspector Mclntyre on Friday by Mr John Keepa, on behalf of the Maoris of Ngatiawa Tribe, who offered to carry out a thorough search of a large area in which it was believed Richard McGill could have been lurking. With 18 other Maoris, some carrying firearms, Mr Keepa, who is child welfare officer here, and also the secretary of the Ngatiawa executive, set out on horseback on Saturday to. search the area of rough country covered wiith lupins and bush at Paroa, between the golf links and the paper mills, and the Whakatane harbour. The Maoris’ offer was greatly appreciated by the police, as it would be almost impossible for such a search to be carried out on foot.
