Unruly Children Disrupt Health Camp
Children recommended for health camp treatment may have to be “screened” to eliminate possible trouble-makers, said Mr E. A. Doobie, secretary of the Auckland Central Council of the New Zealand Health Camp Federation. Following an attempted “walk out” at Campbell’s Bay camp on December 23, three girl ringleaders were drummed out of camp next day on the orders of the matron, Mrs A. Orr. The remaining children returned to Auckland this week. Mr Dobbie said he was unable to acco'unt for the restlessness and lack of response to discipline. The staff which was kindly and experienced, had been deeply hurt. The Whangarei camp staff had also been experiencing difficulties with the children.
