President’s Trophies & Rotoma Cup

Some good rowing was seen in the trial fours competitions of the Whakatane Rowing Club on Saturday / for the Lake Rotoma Challenge Cup. A stiff breeze down river speeded up the various race times considerably although crews had an unfavourable head wind while rowing upstream to the starting point. Crews are now in solid training for competitions at Hamilton in a fortnight’s time. Results:— First heat: G. Moore, C. Ranby, D. McCarthy, T. Stewart, (R. Reid) defeated N. Bowering, W. Sandham, W. Stuart, J. Hudson (Dawson) by . H lengths. - Second heat: G. Dines, G. Goodall, W. O’Rourke, K. Dines (Lynds) ; defeated L. Stewart, M. Brown, E. Middlemass, L. Goodall (T. Reid) by 2 lengths. Third heat: M. Whittaker, E. Hunt, D. Baker, K. Wells (R. Reid) defeated P. Armstrong, E. Petty, R. King, B. Burt (Dawson) by 3 feet. Semi-final: Dines beat Moore by a third of a length.
