Edgecumhe Druids' Children's Picnic And Christmas Tree

A combined picnic and children’s Xmas tree function organised by the social committee of, Edgecumbe Lodge No. 55, A.0.D., was held on Sunday. The weather was perfect for the occasion and a large number of members and their families attended. Ice creams were distributed to every one who arrived on the grounds, and shortly after 11 a.m. races were run off with the following result:— Up to 3 years: Girls, Louis Murphy 1. Boys, Rex Melville 1, Allan Melville 2. Up to 7: Girls, Nancy Sims 1, Ruth Sims 2. Boys, John Wilson 1, Allan Melville 2. Up to 8: Boys, Peter Russell 1, lan Melville 2. Up to 12: ; . Boys, Robin Zinsli 1, John Murphy 2, John Hunter 3. Girls, Maureen Phillips J, Kathie Wilson 2, Esma Hunter 3. Girls, 14 years, Yvonne Zinsli 1, Ehona Lord 2.

Single Women: Miss J. Learning 1, Miss P. Phillips and Miss L. Phillips, dead heat, 2. Men, Mr P. Gear and Bro. T. Blair, dead heat, 1. Married men: Bro. Wilson 1, Bro. Melville 2, Bro. Mullins 3. Women: Mrs Sims 1, Mrs Melville 2, Sister Murphy 3. Various, games were played and enjoyed until lunch when everybody gathered together under a large tent. Tea, soft drinks, ices and apples were supplied. At approximately 1.30 p.m. Santa Claus arrived and was greeted with great enthusiasm. In a very happy speech he said how pleased he was to meet all the children and then proceeded to hand a Christmas present from a beautifully decorated tree to every child present. He was given rousing cheers as he drove away, after which there was a lolly scramble and apples were distributed to the children. Games were then again played by both children and. adults until afternoon tea. Members of the committee and their helpers are to be congratulated on the excellent arrangements made and the success of the day generally.
