CHILDREN'S PARTY ORGANISED BY GALATEA W.I.
Galatea School was the scene of a very colourful and enjoyable party last Saturday * afternoon when the Galatea Women’s Institute held a Christmas party for the children of the district. Weather was more than kind and a really festive air was given to the proceedings by the brightly coloured paper hats the children wore, most of them homemade and some outstandingly original.
Nearly all the children (147 in all) were present with their mothers and the afternoon commenced with lunch for the children consisting of delicious fruit salad, jellies, sandwiches, cake and orange drinks. Entertainment was provided by school children afterwards in the form of a drill display to music, a country dance and a musical game. The display ended with a short exhibition of artificial respiration by the older school children. Next item was an enjoyable little play of a scene from “Alice in Wonderland,” parts being taken as follows; “Alice,” Claire Williams, “Mad Hatter,” John Younger, “White Rabbit,” Jane Brown, “Tweedle Dum,”.John Lane, “Tweedle Dee,” Ronald Young. A few well-rendered songs from the school children concluded the entertainment.
Then came the big' event of the day for which all the children had been waiting—the arrival of Santa Claus. Every child received a toy from him and this, together with a bag of sweets for each one, sent them home very happy although, in most cases, very tired.
The W.I. had worked hard to make the day a success and they received many compliments on their achievement.
