Harbour Board Upheld On Boundary Adjustment
A final scheme for the adjustment of the boundaries between the Opotiki and Whakatane Counties has now been issued by the Local Government Commission. Though it does not include in the Whakatane County the' area asked for by the original petitioners, it does go a little further than the provisional scheme, in that it includes all the channels from the entrance of the Ohiwa Harbour to Ohope, thus upholding an objection by the Whakatane Harbour Board to the provisional scheme. The adjustment increases the area of the Whakatane County by approximately 4,000 acres, and includes in it the Ohiwa Spit, and the country between the Maraetotara stream and Ohiwa Harbour, (embracing Ohakana Island.
