Nurses’ Home Additions Only two tenders were received for additions to the nurses’ home at the monthly meeting of the ? Whakatane Hospital Board on Thursday. The lower one, that of Ray Crawford Ltd., Putaruru, for £22,123 8s Id was accepted subject to the approval of the Department of Health. It was just under the estimate given by the board’s architect. New Quarry At Galatea “I understand that a new quarry is being opened at Galatea,” said a speaker at the annual meeting of the Whakatane Chamber of Commerce on Thursday night. “I also believe that it will be the biggest quarry in New Zealand, providing the best metal in the country which will be used to supply the whole of the Bay of Plenty.” More Females In Hospital There are still more female admissions to the Whakatane Hospital than males as is shown by the monthly report of the medical superintendent, Dr. E. T. Dawson, presented at the November meetirig of the Whakatane Hospital Board on Thursday.' Female admissions total-' led 107, and males 52. However, there were 109 female discharges as against 51 males. There were 30 births and four deaths, while the number of patients remaining in the hospital at the end of November was 86, 48 of whom were females.
