Land Purchased For Ex-Servicemen
Until the end of October 861,058 acres had been purchased, acquired or set aside for the settlement of exservicemen under the Land Settlement Scheme. This is apart from about 5000 individual farms bought by ex-servicemen with rehabilitation assistance from private vendors. Of the above acreage 566,305 acres was purchased under the terms of the Small Farms Act, and this was divisible into 1095 farm units. Another 98,313 acres was acquired under Part II of the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, divisible into 290 farms, and 119,199 acres was purchased under Section 51 of the same legislation, this* being divisible into 392 separate farms. A further 77,241 acres, able to divide into 300 farm units, had been set aside, for settling ex-servicemen from CroWn lands already held. Already 468,203 acres has been allotted, divisible into 1226 farms (496 sheep farms, 626 dairy, and 104 mixed). This leaves 392,855 acres, with a potential of 851 farms (340 sheep, 494 dairy, and 17 mixed).
