Bench ; Bar And Police Tributes To Clerk Of Court
Before the formal business of the Magistrate’s Court commenced at Whakatane on Tuesday, Mr R. F. Smith, on behalf of the legal practitioners here, asked permission -of the Magistrate, Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., to make reference to the approaching retirement of the Clerk of *the Court, Mr Thomas Morgan. Tuesday’s was the last monthly session at Whakatane Mr Morgan will officiate.
Mr Smith said Mr Morgan had been an able and conscientious public servant, who had maintained the best relationship at all times with members of the legal profession. He hoped Mr Morgan would have many years ahead of him to enjoy relaxation from the cares of office.
Mr B. S. Barry, on behalf of Justices of the Peace and the public in general,, expressed appreciation of Mr Morgan’s willing assistance and advice to the Justices and his courteus and obliging manner of dealing with the public. Everyone would wish Mr and Mrs Morgan health and happiness in their future. .
Constable R. F. Julian said the Police had always found in Mr Morgan a willing helper and a straight and honourable man. Mr Walton added his good wishes to those expressed by the others, referring appreciatively to Mr Morgan’s 40 years of faithful service to the Department of Justice. Mr Morgan responded feelingly. He said it had been a great ijlea'sure during his nine years here to work with the local Justices, members of the legal profession and Constable Julian.
