QUALITY EXHIBITS WERE SHOWN AT NUKUHOU NORTH

Many parents and friends were present *at the calf club day on Monday at the Nukuhou North School. The calves were all of quite good class, and showed that the children had ti-ained and" cared for them well. The judges were Mr Len Looney, Mrs Percy Looney and Mr S. Judd, of Waiotahi. After a much enjoyed afternoon tea had been served, Mr Grant, headmaster of the school, thanked

the judges for coming and judging the calves, their help being greatly appreciated. Mr Frant said he understood one of the main objects of the calf club was to encourage the younger generation to take more interest in stock and farming and to help to curtail the drift into the cities by young folk from the country. He congratulated the winners on their success and told the children who did not get a place to try again. Mr Grant then called on Mr Ron Macdonald to present his cup to Jimmy Taff and also asked Mr P. Clark of the Y.F.C. to present the Robert Fleming Memorial Cup to Reginald McConnell, Waimana. (As stated previously, the cup is competed for by Waimana and Nukuhou North Schools). Results:— Calf Section Senior calf rearing: Mick Ruff, 85 points, 1; Vivian O’Kane, 2; Meryl Robinson, 75pts, 3. Intermediate: Bobby Robinson, 95pts, 1; Joan Pike, 89pts, 2; Jimmy t Toff, 88 \ pts 3. Junior: John Robinson, 90 a pts, 1; Tom Robinson, 90pts, 2; Tom Semmens, 87pts, 3. Champion calf: Bobby Robinson. Macdonald Cup for type, was won by Jimmy Taff, runners-up, Vivian O.’Kane and Bobby Robinson. Floral Work and’ Sewing The floral work and sewing by pupils was of quite high standard. Awards follow: Scones: Tinky Ball 1, Meryl Robinson 2. Junior sewing: Bernice Hughes and Gilda Mottram, equal, 1; Annette Ruff and Faye Hughes, equal, 2. Senior sewing: Vonnie Collier 1, Helen Mottram 2. Posy: Ann Mottram 1. Deeorated saucer: Tinky Ball 1, Margaret Sinclair 2, Ann Mottram 3. Sweet peas: Vonnie Collier 1.
