Edgecumbe Loses To P. & T.: Poor Ground Conditions Against Good Cricket
Playing against P. and T. on the Whakatane Domain oh Sunday Edgecumbe were defeated by 13 runs on the first innings. Not to be deterred by the rain the teams took the field at noon Edgecumbe batting. Any possibility of good cricket was spoilt by the poor ground conditions, the long grass stopping the ball immediately it hit the ground. The visiting team did not settle down, and the bowlers were definitely on top. | Rain held up the .game for half an hour, Edgecumbe at that time being 6 down for 22. Finding it impossible to score off short hits, the batsmen hit out and with a few boundaries brought the score to 41 before the side was dismissed. P. and T. experienced the same difficulties as Edgecumbe and scoring was very slow. Shapley, Malaquin, Kneebone and Seebeck each scoring just on double figures put their team a few runs ahead before the’ side were all out for 54.
