Waimana-Nukuhou W.I. Meeting

There was a large attendance at the November meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute. Mrs R. Looney presided. . Four new members were welcomed, Mrs F. Sterling, Mrs E. Williams, Mrs Bethelheim, Mrs Cooper. An invitation to the Taneatua W.I. birthday was received. The yearly collection was made for the A.C.W.W., as it was International Day. A large food parcel is despatched each month to the link in England, and letters are received regularly thanking all. Members of the Drama Club entertained with items, the first being a humorous sketch, entitled,. “Hole in my Bucket,” was well presented by Mrs Stansbury and Mrs T. King, and a melodrama, produced by Mrs T. King, was greatly enjoyed. After afternoon tea, Mrs Stewart of Whakatane, gave a glowing account of the A.C.W.W. Conference held in Holland, which she attended. Mrs Stewart told members of the marvellous flower shows held in Holland, and how most flowers are grown in glass houses. She also gave a vivid account of the Royal wedding in London, and had many photographs of scenes and people of Holland and the Royal wedding. At the conclusion of the address the speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks by'acclamation. Competitions:— Red, white and blue frock spray: Mrs Whiteman 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs Woolfield 3. Best double flower: Mrs H. Bell 1, Mrs Sterling 2, Mrs M. King 3. Best single flower: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs H. Bell 2, Mrs M. King 3. Best vegetable: Mrs L. Robertson 1, Mrs'F. Bell 2, Mrs Hewitt 3. Malt biscuits: Mrs Looney 1, Mrs F. Bell 2, Mrs Whiteman 3. ‘ \ At/the conclusion of the meeting, Mrs Looney thanked the judges, Mrs Stewart and Mrs Luke, the hostesses and Drama Circle members.
