Galatea W.I. Meeting Well-Attended

The monthly meeting of the Galatea Women’s Institute held in the school was very well-attended. The president, Mrs Taylor, presided, and in the absence of the secretary Mrs I. MacDonald deputised.

Chief business of the afternoon was the arrangements for the Xmas tree in December, all members being enthusiastic with the idea of a lunch for the children to precede their meeting Father Christmas. Mrs J. Young who is in charge of the arrangements for a Baby Clinic, gave a resume of the progress in the past month. After making enquiries concerning the Plunket Society it was decided to drop the idea of joining with it, and continue as a Baby Clinic in charge of the District Nurse. There was a very good response to the appeal for money to purchase plunket scales.

Two new members were enrolled —Mesdames K. Galloway and D. Crawford.

Competition results:— Rolling shilling: Mrs Veager 1. Single bloom: Mrs I. MacDonald 1, Mrs Lane 2, Mrs J. Lee 3.

Head of flowers: Mrs J. Thatcher I, Mrs L. Nicholl 2, Mrs Lane 3. Sponge cake: Mrs A. Judd 1, Mrs F. Waller 2, Mrs Lee 3. A dainty afternoon tea served by Mesdames V. Esmond, T.. Mills and J. Young, brought the afternoon to a close. ?
