Mt Maunganui teams are to be asked to come over to Ohope for the opening day Whakatane Surf and Life Saving Club on December 12 and, in anticipation of competitive events that day, members of the local Club are going into training this week-end. There was a special general meeting of the Club on Wednesday night, when .Mr A. R. Knights presided over a good attendance, including a number of new members. Final amangements were made for tomorrow night’s dance a.t the Captain’s Cabin. The following executive appointments held over from the annual meeting were made: Instructors, Miss M. Wilson, Messrs M. McGill and G. K. Koea; women’s vice-cap-tain, Miss Nancy Wilson; executive committee, Messrs McGill, R. Scobie and B. Needham. f New members admitted to the Club were Misses N. Wilson, D. Sunkel, F. Windley and B. Goodall, Messrs G. K. Koea, E. Kane, P. Butler, R. Scobie, J. Nicholson, A. Hollis, P. Agnew. Mr Knights said he trusted members would put their wholehearted efforts into making the season a successful one. There would probably be visits to the Mt Maunganui Surf Carnival, to Waihi for the New Zealand Surf Championships next February, and a Club visit to Gisborne. Also, there were surf medallions to work for. Everyone could assist in patrolling the beach, and have a really good time while doing it.
