Fielding a team for the first time for many years Edgecumbe defeated Te Teko last Sunday after a very enjoyable game. Thurlow, bowlipg a varied ball, had the batsmen in trouble immediately and the first wicket fell in the first over. V. Tunnicliffe, playing nige defensive strokes, smothered the bowling but could find no one to stay with him and wickets fell quickly the side being out for 19 runs after one hour’s play. Thurlow collected 5 wickets for 6 runs; A. Blake 2 for 3. Edgecumbe, after being 3 down for 12 runs, made a stand and Phillips and Civil added 30 runs before Phillips was out lbw. The whole side were out by lunch for 65 runs, 45 runs ahead. R. Patterson, bowling steadily,, took 5 wickets for 17 runs' Lyons 3 for 26.

In the second innings Te Teko were in a bad position with 6 wickets down for 45, A. Blake and L. Thurlow showing good form at this stage having claimed 3 wickets each for 20 runs. R. Patterson, skipper for Te Teko, then decided to do something about it and determinedly attacked the bowling. Supported by V. Tunnicliffe, who made 23 before he was caught,, and then by K. Woods, Patterson went on to make 64‘not out when he retired his side, leaving Edgecumbe 84 runs behind with an hour to go. Two wickets fell for 11 and Te Teko chances looked bright but a fine partnership by I. Campbell and LV Thurlow added 62 runs in 35 minutes, both players forcing runs from every hit.' With 9 runs to get and five minutes to go Campbell was bowled by Patterson and he was followed by Civil who.hit two fours and a six by successive balls bringing an excising game to a finish.

It was noted both teams included several young and new players and with coaching and practice .these players will strengthen their respective teams considerably as the season advances..
