Electricians Meet: Whakatane Branch
The October meeting of the N.Z.I.E. was held at Opotiki. It was decided to send two delegates to the four days conference at Napier. Members were also informed that a social evening would be held in The Captain’s Cabin, Ohope Beach, oh November 27. Mr Mansell gave a lecture on “The Application of the Slide Rule.” This was a very difficult lecture to impart and Mr Mansell knew his subject very well. A few of the lecturer’s main points were that a knowledge of mathematics was necessary for the successful use of the Slide Rule, that accuracy depends on the individual, that the Slide Rule is excellent for costing purposes, easy currency conventions, and has a wide application in the engineering trades. Mr Mansell demonstrated many and varied equations on the blackboard bringing into use the many scales available with the Slide Rule.
The evening concluded with supper provided by the Opotiki branch.
