Trout Fishing Gets Away To Good Start: Streams Promising
Though a number of the local parties of trout fishermen Who went out on Monday have camped on the job and will not be back for a day or two, reports that have come in indicate that first day catches give promise of a good season. It will be particularly pleasing to keen sportsmen to note that *bere seem to be plenty of small fish about, particularly in the Waimana River, which was, however, a bit hard to fish, running' high and carrying an unusual volum of water for this time of the year. However, the Waimana yielded two very good fish and a small one for Mr J. Morice, and Mr A. Righton caught two in good condition. Mtssrs L. George and J. Plamus hooked 16 altogether, but all but nine were too small to take. Of the fish that have so far been taken in that ocality average weight is 2 to 31b. The Ruatoki is not very suitable for fishing yet, but it is understood one fish weighing about 41b was landed there.
The Lakes yielded some limit bags for Whakatane sportsmen. Fishing Roto Ehu, Messrs J. Laskey, Wha-. katane," and Broadmore, Thor-.ton, got the limit each. Mr F. Matchitt's party of four landed 16, Mr O. V. Marx, of Edgecumbe, caught the limit at Rotoma, and it was there also that Mr R. Whittle's party of three landed 10 fish, including one weighing Bilb.
