1924 Selector Nominated As Manager For All Blacks’ S. Africa Tour

' A special medting or the executive of the Bay of Plenty Rugby I Union at Whakatane on Wednesday night decided to support the nomination of Mr L. V. Carmine, of : Wellington, for the managership of the All Black team to-tour South .Africa, and has advised the ' New Zealand Rugby Union of that. de~ i cision. -

Mr Carmine, who has been nominated for the job by both Wanganui and Poverty Bay, has been well known in New Zealand Rugby administrative circles for a number of years, and is an ex-president of the New Zealand Rugby Union. When on the West Coast of the South Island, he was one of the five selectors who chose the famous invincible 1924 All Black team.

He is a retired N.Z. Railway Divisional Traffic Manager.

Week-End Cricket The Te Puke Cricket Club will visit Whakatane on Labour Day and play the United Club on the Showgrounds, at TO a.m. Following is the United team: N. E. Rigden, M. F. Le Pine, W. J. McKenzie, L. R. Spring, E. Chamberlain, W. Alexander, P: Comiskey, W. Crawford, N. Carter, I. Wyatt, G. Howard.

Players are to report to the pavilion at 9 a.m. and a plate will be required from each man for afternoon tea.
