Thornton Institute Well Attended
There was a good attendance at the October meeting of- the Thornton Women’s Institute, As it was members’ day, Mrs Sheat presided and Mrs Fisher was secretary. Remits were -discussed and delegates chosen for the Council meeting at Edgecumbe., Members were asked to bring either soap or tins of fat to make up a Xmas parcel for sending overseas. Arrangements. were made for a children’s Xmas party. Mrs McQueen gave an interesting demonstration on the making of rugs from wool. Mrs Jones won the wall competition, Mrs L. Smith the prize in aid of general funds. Competition winners were:— Knitted pullover: Mrs Walker I,\ Mrs Branch 2. Marmalade: Mrs McDonald 1, Mrs Law 2. Spray: Mrs Ducker 1, Mrs Jones 2. Flower: Mrs Jones 1, Mrs Fisher 2. Vegetable: Mrs Law 1, Mrs Sheat
