Rock Blasting

NAVY EXPERTS ARE BACK AGAIN Naval explosive experts under Mr R. Axisley, Torpedo Officer from the Devonport Naval Base, who blasted some of the rocks obstructing the Whakatane Harbour entrance earlier this year, are back again, with the intention of removing two more rocks at the entrance, and the remains of the one in the river off the wharf. The rock-blasting team arrived with the. Fisheries Patrol on Wednesday, carried out inspections and fired one charge at the Heads yesterday. • Targets on this occasion are two rocks, one on each side of the entrance at the Heads, which were covered with sand during earlier operations and which therefore escaped demolition on that occasion. It is also intended to remove what remains of the Matatua Rock in the river near the wharf. .
