Oh ope Bowling Club Opening It was a great day in the history of Ohope, when, despite the inclemency of the weather, a large number of bowling enthusiasts from many parts of the district gathered to? witness the ceremony of opening the new green on Saturday. Mr R. L. Murray, president, welcomed visiting bowlers, members and intending members, and then called on Mr J. L. Burnett, chairman of the County Council, who complimented Mr Millar, the owner, on'his enterprise in laying down the green. The next speaker, Mr A. J. Canning, a veteran bowler, outlined the history of Ohope and gave very valuable advice to the members of the new club. The president’s wife was then called on to roll the first jack, Mrs J. Patterson played the first bowl and, amid great applause, Mr Canning declared the green open. The gathering then .adjourned to Mr Millar’s residence where a sumptuous afternoon tea was provided by Mrs Millar, an air of gaiety prevailed and the host and hostess were accorded musical honours.
