Fire Caused By Mirror
While the sun that shone over the Te Awamutu district recently was not excessively strong, its concentrated rays in one home in Kihikihi caused some concern to one householder, states the Te Awamutu Courier. The family noticed the smell of fire and put it down to the burning of rubbish somewhere in the vicinity of the home. As the smell became stronger they ma'de investigations, and despite the fact that it was strongest in one room they failed to locate the origin of the fire. They extended their search to a glassed-in sun porch where a strong magnifying mirror was standing on a tail-boy. While the householders were in the room the window curtains burst into flame, the fire being caused by the rays. of the sun being concentrated from the mirror onto the curtains.
