HIGH OFFICERS OF Y.F.C. VISIT THIS DISTRICT

Address At WellAttended Meeting

Messrs McLachlan, Dominion President, and S. Freeman, Dominion organiser and secretary of the Young Farmers’ Club movement, attended and addressed the monthly meeting of the Otakiri Y.F.C. on Monday night. Mr E. R. Marryatt, Eastern Bay of Plenty secretary, was also in attendance. Mr J. Keir, president, was in the chair. The meeting was very well attended, visitors from other clubs being present. Mr McLachlan gave a very interesting address dealing mainly with the objects of the movement and his impressions received whilst on his tour of clubs in the North Island. He congratulated Otakiri Club on the efficient manner in which it had conducted its meeting, stressing the need for adhering to proper procedure. He also congratulated those present on their attendance. He then , went on to explain the exceptionally democratic setup Ojl the movement from the branches up to the top. This, he pointed out, was the envy of some of the senior farmer movements functioning today. Mr Freeman gave a very good address which at times brought many hearty laughs from his audience. He touched on many matters of interest, including settlement of the. land, finance and the Memorial Fund (which is doing well but needs a bit of help along), ideas for club activities, and, last, he explained the starting of the Young Women’s Country Club movement, somewhat on the same lines as the Y.F.C. Altogether, a most interesting address Advisory members’ comments: “With men of the high calibre of those of the head of the movement who attended the meeting and the general good spirit shown by them there, the Y.F.C. is worthy of support by all senior farmers. It cannot help but be of enormous help to the farming community in ’the future.” “As Mr McLachlan, Dominion President pointed out, it rests sometimes with the older farmers to encourage their sons to join and take an interest. The older farmers could do themselves a great service by doing this.’
