Vital Statistics During the three months ended September 30, 132 births were registered at Whakatane. In the same period there were 16 deaths. Marriage licenses issued totalled 22, Rains On Plains During September 2.03 inches of rain fell in the Rangitaiki Plains area on 7 rainy days. Heaviest day’s fall was 1.15 inches on September 18. For the nine months of this year that have passed, 57.32 inches have been recorded, compared with an average of 44.90 for the first nine months of each 4 of the previous 10 years. Average fall for the last ten Septembers has been 4,60. Head-On Collisions Head-on collisions are unusual, but two occurred last week-end. On a long, gentle curve on the East Bank road, Edgecumbe, on Saturday a car driven by Mr K. H. Sullivan, of Edgecumbe, collided head-on with a truck driven by Mr T. A. Day, Te Whaiti. Both Mr Sullivan and his brother. Mr B. A. Sullivan, who was travelling with him, were injured slightly, but able to go home. Both vehicles were seriously damaged. The other collision occurred on Friday, at Te Teko, when two cars met head-on on a one-way bridge. One of the drivers was Mr R. W, Hogg, Onepu farmer, ’and the other Mr Naunau, Opotiki. Mrs Hogg and two small children suffered bruises.
