REGIONAL RED CROSS CONFERENCE
Dominion Leader Visits Wliakatane The presence of the Dominion Chairman, Mr A. E. Gibbons, of Hamilton, gave representatives of several Bay of Plenty Red Cross Centres the opportunity of enhancing their knowledge of Red Cross work in all its as- . pects on Saturday at the second annual Regional Red Cross Conference. Delegates attended from Hamilton, Opotiki, Tauranga, Mt. Maunganui, Te Puke, Thornton, Edgecombe, Awakeri and Whakatane. It was an occasion for informal exchange of methods, organisation, work pei’formed, raising of funds. Mr Gibbons reported on the Society’s annual meeting in Dunedin, and the manner in which Red Cross met the emergency caused by the tornado at Frankton. Unfortunately, no report had been received of the results of the International Red Cross Conference in Sweden, but from letters received from the N.Z. Red Cross, delegation some important and valuable decisions were arrived at. In the unavoidable absence of the president, Mrs Sullivan, and both vice-presidents, Mrs Winstone presided, and lunch and afternoon tea were served by Eastern Bay of Plenty members. . • Mr Crawford, of Tauranga, spoke on behalf of the visitors, expressing appreciation of the hospitality and the opportunity of full discussion of Red Cross that had been given them. They hoped they could return next year.
