Network, Of Tourist Attractions Enlarged
With the network of tourist services being slowly extended, the Tourist Department is seeking to make places formerly regarded as winter sports grounds into all-the-year-round attractions. This year, for the first time, visitors to Chateau Tongariro, will have the benefit of conducted side-trips. These will begin in November, and will take in visits to the thermal regions round Wairakei and to the Wanganui River. ' New walks and other summer attractions are being developed at the Hermitage and Franz Jogef Glacier. Steady work had been done on the Milford Track during the offseason, and the network of services in the Milford Sounds was being steadily built up. Stewart Island, with its boating, fishing and bush walks, is also becoming popular.
