N.Z. Has Lowest Road Death Rate

New Zealand still retains its position as having the lowest death rate from traffic accidents of any motorised country in the world. The comparative figures showing traffic deaths per. 10,000 registered motor vehicles are: New Zealand, 6.2; United States of America, 8.5; Canada, 10.7; Victoria, 13.3; New South Wales, 14.1; Great Britain, 16.0; and South Africa, 19.5. Of the accidents reported, 69 v per cent occurred in built-up areas and 31 per cent in rural areas. In the towns, one accident in 28 had fatal results, but in the areas not built up where speeds are normally greater, the severity of accidents was greater and one accident in every ,11 proved fatal.
