Letter’s Long Trip: Edgecumbe To Te Teko— Via Birmingham, England!
On March 24, a letter containing a cheque for £57 10s was posted from Edgecumbe to Mr T. Edwards at Te Teko. He got it last week. In the meantime, the letter apparently did' a lot of travelling. The envelope now carries five postmarks, which' show that it arrived at Te Teko on the first occasion on March 25. Apparently it was re-posted there on March 30, probably having been collected in error by the wrong addressee. The next postmark, believe it or not, is Birmingham, England, June 1. After its trip to England, Mr Edwards got his cheque; which had, of course, been reported to the bank as lost and had been replaced. He is keeping the envelope as a souvenir—if it doesn’t go astray when the Beacon posts it back to him! .! ;. ’ \ Those who complain about mails taking four or five days to get here from Wellington, will no doubt derive a certain cynical comfort from the story of Mr, Edwards and his cheque.
