Edgecumbe W.I.
There was- a good attendance at the August meeting of the Edgecumbe Woman’s Institute, the occasion being Members’ Day. Mrs J. Simpson presided and Mrs R. Burgess acted as secretary. The secretary reported that Mrs Martin had offered to make a cake to send in a Christmas parcel to the Link in England. Arrangements in connection with the Institute Show were discussed and members were reminded that entries close on September 17. . Two new members were welcomed to the Institute. Birthday sprays were presented to Mrs G. Watson, Mrs Burgess and Mrs Mexted, also a Baby Bank Book -to Mrs Blair. Mrs A. Thomson gave a very interesting and comprehensive report on her. recent visit to the Conference as delegate from the Institute, after which Mrs Burgess and Mrs Woollett gave a demonstration of pressure cooking. Competition results:— Best flower: Mrs Woollett 1, Mrs J. C. Tunnicliffe and Mrs Goldsmith equal, 2, Mrs Wilson 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Black 1, Mrs Sim 2. Blouse fwith revers): . Mrs L. Martin* 1. Vase of spring flowers: Mrs Crang 1, Mrs Black 2, Mrs Magee 3. Sultana cake: Mrs Black 1, Mrs Martin 2.
