Rabbit Destruction Council Sees Merit In Board’s Case Concerning Crown Claims

In a letter dealt with at this month’s meeting of the Pongakawa Rabbit Board, the Rabbit Destruction Council expressed the opinion that there was considerable merit in the case made out by the Beard for an increased allowance for administration on Crown claims and they have forwarded a copy of the Board’s letter on to the Director of Agriculture. /' The Stock Inspector stated that he had been asked to furnish additional information to his Auckland office seating particularly the areas of Crown and Native land in the differential rating areas and reporting on the degree of infestation, and he had therefore written to Mr Davis, the Inspector, seeking this infomation. A copy of Mr Davis’s reply was tabled at the meeting and the secretary reported, that, excluding - the Maori Land Board’s area, there was 91,170 acres of Crown, Native and State Forest land in the 3 3-10 d area and the balance was in the 1 l-10d area. The Rabbit Destruction Council also acknowledged receipt of application for a grant of £9OO and stated that the Council had adopted the practice of either visiting the area itself, or appointing a sub-commit-tee of the Council to visit the area and report.. It was left to the Chairman and the Inspector to arrange an itinerary in the event of the Council’s decid T ing to make aii inspection of the district. The Inspector,' Mr G. H. Davis, reported tliat, since the previous meeting, he and his men had poisoned 16,100 acres and fumigated 11,200 acres using 14071bs of phophorised pollard and l/61bs of Cyanogas.
